This course is designed to give participants theory and practical training on the operations of a roller on Australian civil construction, coal, metalliferous and extractive mine or quarry sites. All training is conducted on-site as the practical operations must carried out in a live environment and apply site safety principles and procedures.
The candidate must provide us access to the machine to conduct the training and the machine must in be sound condition and comply with manufacturer guidelines and specifications.
Candidates will learn how to operate a typical roller and how to conduct safety procedures concerning roller operations. The objective of each training course is to equip participants with a sound overview and practical experience of how work should be carried out on site.
Units of Competencies
This training program includes the following unit of competency:
- RIIMPO317D Conduct roller operations
The topics covered throughout this training course are as follows:
- Planning the work for the prevailing working conditions
- Using the controls and operating systems to manage the operation of the equipment
- Locating the load and identifying the load characteristics
- Safely moving the load
- Monitoring the controls
- Stopping, shutting down and securing the equipment after the completion of operation
On successful completion of this training course, candidates will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) enables students to gain formal recognition for a qualification and/or units of competency where there knowledge, skills and experiences are compared to the qualification and/or units of competency in the qualification to determine what they already know.
To determine their eligibility New Horizons Safety and Training Services assess the skills and knowledge students have gained through life experiences and work that relates to their qualification and/or units of competency.
If there is a match RPL/CT will be granted. New Horizons Safety and Training Services will discuss RPL/CT with you to confirm your eligibility.
Language, Literacy and Numeracy
This training program requires reading, writing and numeracy skills.
