Course Description

This course is designed to give participants theory and practical training on the operations of a haul truck on Australian coal, metalliferous and extractive mine or quarry sites. All training is conducted on-site as the practical operations must carried out in a live environment and should include haul roads, ramps, loading and dumping stations and apply site safety principles and procedures.

The candidate must provide us access to the machine to conduct the training and the machine must in be sound condition and comply with manufacturer guidelines and specifications.

Candidates will learn how to operate a typical haul truck and how to conduct safety procedures concerning haul truck operations. The objective of each training course is to equip participants with a sound overview and practical experience of how work should be carried out on a mine site. This includes general knowledge regarding mine site activities as well as machine operations.

There are multiple competencies is available for the different types of dump trucks:

 

    • RIIMPO338D Conduct rigid haul truck operations
    • RIIMPO337D Conduct articulated haul truck operations

    • Safety Procedures and Instructions (Operating Manuals, MSDS etc.)
    • Haul truck types
    • Haul truck components
    • How to conduct walk around inspections
    • How to conduct upper level inspections
    • Safe boarding procedures
    • Typical alarm and warning systems
    • Gauges
    • Pre-start checks
    • General operating of the haul truck
    • Effective use of braking systems (this is a key element of haul truck operating)
    • Operating on haul roads and ramps
    • Loading procedures
    • Dumping procedure
    • Parking and shut down procedures
    • Brake failures
    • Loss of power and or function
    • Wet conditions
    • Tyre blow outs
    • Fires
    • Communications in emergency situations
    • Dealing with shift handovers, briefings, records and reports etc.

 

Course Outcomes

On successful completion of this training course, candidates will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

Course Pre-Requisites

There are no applicable course pre-requisites.

 

Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) enables students to gain formal recognition for a qualification and/or units of competency where there knowledge, skills and experiences are compared to the qualification and/or units of competency in the qualification to determine what they already know.

To determine their eligibility New Horizons Safety and Training Services assess the skills and knowledge students have gained through life experiences and work that relates to their qualification and/or units of competency.

If there is a match RPL/CT will be granted. New Horizons Safety and Training Services will discuss RPL/CT with you to confirm your eligibility.

This training program requires reading, writing and numeracy skills.
