RIIWHS204D Work Safely at Heights
Many people assume that working at heights injuries and fatalities occur as a result of falls from high buildings and structures, but they often occur from falls of only two to four metres.
This course addresses the issues relating to working at heights to ensure participants understand the requirements and procedures that are governed by legislation and to ensure that they and everybody that may be affected by working at heights operations are not subjected to an unacceptable level of risk.
The course includes both theory and practical components, with participants undertaking practical exercises to ensure familiarity with harness and safety systems.
This unit of competency is required to undertake safe working practices when working at heights or depths. This unit is appropriate for those working in a operational roles, at worksites within Civil construction, Coal mining, Drilling, Extractive industries or Metalliferous mining.
The topics covered throughout this training course are as follows:
- Identify work requirements
- Work procedures and instructions for the task
- Accessing and installing equipment
- Performing work at heights
- Required documentation
- Prepare for work
- Risk assessment
- Identifying appropriate equipment (harnesses and fall restraint systems etc.)
- Fall prevention methods
- Suspension trauma
- Safety monitoring
- and cleaning up the work
On successful completion of this training course, candidates will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment with the unit of competency RIIWHS204D Work safely at heights.
Refresher Details: Candidates may be required to complete refresher training every five (5) years from date of course completion, if working on a coal mine site. Candidates may also be required to complete this refresher training earlier to comply with any site compliances.
